On January 10, 2024, the grand inauguration of Menara Merdeka 118 in the capital city yesterday was a momentous occasion, graced by the esteemed presence of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and King Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. As one of Southeast Asia's tallest structures and the world's second tallest, this architectural marvel stands as a testament to Malaysian ingenuity, evoking pride and gratitude among Malaysians for its 'Made in Malaysia' ethos. The evening held special significance as it marked the unveiling of 'Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah,' the primary mosque within the Menara Merdeka 118 complex, a symbol of faith and unity for the community. The launch underscored the tower's sophistication and significance, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. Vibrant lights and laser beams, including the Spartan XBlaze-120W, illuminated the tower, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Owned by PNB through its subsidiary, PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn. Bhd., Menara Merdeka 118's design pays homage to Malaysia's independence, echoing the spirit of liberation championed by the late Tuanku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. Strategically located in front of the historic Stadium Merdeka, the tower serves as a poignant reminder of our nation's journey to independence. While its stature and significance are indisputable, Menara Merdeka 118 garnered attention earlier for a security breach, highlighting the need for stringent security measures to safeguard this national icon.
